Grandma Ruth
It is with sad hearts that we share the passing of Grandma Ruth. She went to her heavenly home on May 8th and will be dearly missed. Grandma was born in China and moved with her husband, Daniel, to Burma. Titus, Phoebe, and Yuri were born there. They eventually moved to Thailand where Nehemiah was born. She was also the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren. She was an important part of Under the Son Ministries and truly loved the Lord. What an amazing Christian example she was for all of us who knew her!
It Takes Preparation
Any time you take on a task, especially one you haven’t done before, it takes preparation. Such was the situation for the Under the Son Ministries staff when deciding to hold a youth camp for the first time on the properties of Antioch Christian Church and Gethsemane Home. The first thing they did was hire someone to come in and level off the land behind the church for a soccer field. The next project was to build a water tower. With over 100 children expected for camp, it was going to take a lot of water for bathrooms and bathing. They also had to borrow tents from the temple, set up a volleyball court, and prepare food. When all these tasks were completed, the preparation helped ensure they were going to have a great week of camp. We are thankful for willing workers.
Jesus is the Winner
From May 2nd through 5th, our Under the Son Ministries staff went to Japa village near the ThaiMyanmar border to help with a youth camp. This camp included young people from both the Lahu and Ahka tribes. About 45 people came to hear stories from the Bible. “Jesus is the Winner” was the camp theme for the week. Along with Bundit’s and Andrew’s families, a group of students from Lanna Theological Center (LTC) participated in leading the camp.
Youth Camp 2018
The week of April 9th our first youth camp was held at Antioch Christian Church with around 145 children in attendance. A separate program was held at Gethsemane Home for the children who were ten years old and younger. Ten children came with Simeon and Zaccheus from the Omkoi district, about 150 miles from Gethsemane Home. The children at the camp, many who did not know Jesus, came from the Lahu Shehleh, Akha, and Red Lahu hill tribes. The theme for camp was Youth for Christ, and the main Bible verse was I Timothy 4:12.
Titus said the girls slept at either Moses’ house, Bundit’s house, or at Gethsemane Home. The boys slept at a nearby Lisu church, which was also used for some classes. The children not only learned about Jesus, but classes were held to teach them how to read and write both the Lahu and Akha languages. We’re excited to see what God has in store for next year’s youth camp!
Making Connections
Since Under the Son Ministries was established in 2010, we have been so thankful for all the many connections we have made with other ministries. One of the latest connections came in February during an area men’s meeting at Barnard, Missouri. Phil Casey with Literature And Teaching Ministries (LATM) was the guest speaker. After the meeting, Steve talked to Phil about the possibility of obtaining some materials in either the Thai or Lahu language. Phil told Steve who their contact was in Chiang Mai, and the next day Steve contacted Titus. A few days later Titus went to ActsCo Printing, and he was given 2,000 copies of The Life of Christ Visualized in the Lahu language. During church camp, five hundred of these copies were given to several of the church leaders in Thailand. The rest of the copies will be sent to Burma, China, and Laos to be distributed to the churches there.
